AbstractAbout the AuthorsReferences
This paper examines the spatio-temporal patterns of cage aquaculture facility placement and the preconditions for the formation of a cumulative geoecological effect within the fishery natural–technical system of aquaculture. The aim of the study was to develop and test a geoinformation-based method for assessing the spatio-temporal transformation of aquaculture sites and cage modules, as well as for identifying zones of potential cumulative geoecological impact on the environment. The objects of the study were aquaculture sites and cage modules located in the northern part of Lake Ladoga. The methodological framework included the analysis of satellite images from different time periods covering 2020–2026, interpretation of the actual cage locations, comparison of aquaculture site boundaries with the boundaries of a protected natural area, and buffer modeling of potential impact zones. It was found that some aquaculture sites are located in close proximity to the boundaries of the Ladoga Skerries National Park, while the actual placement of cage modules within aquaculture sites changes over time. It is shown that the displacement of cages and changes in the configuration of production lines lead to the spatial overlap of potential geoecological impact zones and create preconditions for the formation of a cumulative geoecological effect. The study concludes that geoecological assessment of aquaculture facilities should take into account not only the official boundaries of aquaculture sites but also the actual spatio-temporal configuration of cage modules. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using the proposed approach for the environmental justification of aquaculture facility placement and for the implementation of local organic waste collection systems.
